Penny Mordaunt


Penny Mordaunt is a British Conservative Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Portsmouth North since 2010. She has also been a Paymaster General since February 2020. In September 2021, she was appointed as Minister of State for International Trade. She has been Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council since September 2022.

Mordaunt was born on March 4, 1973. Her father is John Mordaunt, a former paratrooper and special needs teacher. Her mother was Jennifer, who was a relative of Philip Snowden, the first Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer. When she was 15 years old her mother died of breast cancer. She has two brothers: a younger brother Edward and James.

Mordaunt is known for being the first woman to carry the sword of state during the procession at Westminster Abbey in King Charles III's coronation on May 6, 2023 .
